Passion Strong, Bring It On

Well following on from the last blog, I have continued to watch what I eat and I am starting to see the results. Things like clothes are feeling better and the energy levels have increased. This is a positive and heading in the direction that I am happy with.

The running is coming nicely with continued improvement. In April I pumped out a total of 207km of running, this is a significant increase on previous months and getting through injury free was a real bonus. The month of May is also looking strong with 144km completed to date with 2 weeks to go. I am now looking forward to building the numbers over time whilst continuing to increase the riding. Coach Big A has told me I need to be doing 2 rides a week with one at 2 hours and a windtrainer session once a week. Swims are optional and thats the way I like it. I hate swimming!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have entered the half Ironman at Shepparton in November 2011 which I am really looking forward too. I did this race in 2010 after limited training and knocked out a 5.4? something time which I was happy with. This was a long way from my PB of 5.19 in 2003. Should be a great race this year with 56 WSTC members racing and sharing the fun. Really looking forward to training with the guys in the lead up to the day.

Also on the program for 2011 is the Melbourne Marathon again and quite a few half marathons. With the current running program and the regular partners in Xavier, Benny, Steve, Greg, Billy & Big A. I am hoping for a PB. More on that prediction later.

Once again, thanks to all my training partners for the support and most all my family for allowing me the time to be selfish and do this sport!

Ciao for Now!!!!!!

Serious Training Has Started!

After weeks of going through the motions and kidding myself that I have plenty of time on my side I have decided to focus heavily on the diet again. This means locking out the chips and soft drink and replacing it with Yoghurt, fruit and Water. After 1 day, I feel exhausted! This feeling will dissapear quickly as my body accepts the changes and the sugar requirements deminish.

Why am I doing this? That's easy, I want to feel great and have the best Ironman yet at Ironman New Zealand in March 2012. I am looking to be disciplined with my eating and training, whilst managing a very busy work and family life.

For years I have fluctuated with weight, when in training I drop it quick and when not training I start my quest to be a biggest loser contestant of the future.

Training over the last few weeks has really stepped up, with an average of 60-70km of running per week over 6 days a week. I am already noticing the improvements and have recently run under 50 minutes for the 10km's in a long time, this was a great personal achievement as its been a long time. Still along way from the PB of 42 minutes but heading in the right direction.

I have again enlisted the services of my long time coach and friend Andrew Sinclair for this Journey. I will officially start this coaching program with Andrew in July 2012. In the meantime I will work closely with Andy and others to get my base fitness together by July.

I am currently working with several close mates in assisting with motivating my training needs. These people are awesome and without the recent support I'd be on the couch.

Motivation can be difficult at times but after the inspirational effort of a mate of mine Matty Lewis at Ironman Port Macquarie yesterday that should not be a problem again. Matty yesterday finished in 14th place overall out of a field of 1000 people. Matty won his Age Group (40-44 same as me for IMNZ) and has showed the most amazing comeback that I have seen. Less than 3 years ago Matty's life turned upside down after a horrific bike crash that came so close to taking his life. Matty required urgent brain surgery, hip surgery, shoulder surgery and more than 2 years of rehabilitation to fight back and yesterday he achieved this by his result in again earning a spot to KONA. This is enough to motivate the laziest of us.

Overall things are going well and I have been getting awesome support from Jo & the boys along with other family members and many friends. This is going to be a long journey, but one I hope to enjoy.

Again thanks to my training partners and I look forward to the next 10 months.

Train Safe!
